Special biodynamic preparations are used to stimulate micro-organism activity and improve soil structure.<\/li><li><strong>Closed-loop farming:<\/strong> The farm strives for self-sufficiency by integrating crop and livestock production. Animal manure is used as fertiliser, thus facilitating nutrient cycling and reducing the need for external inputs.<\/li><li><strong>Promoting biodiversity:<\/strong> Farmers create different habitats, such as hedgerows, meadows and water bodies, to support different species and promote ecosystem balance.<\/li><li><strong>Observing cosmic rhythms:<\/strong> Farm work is planned according to the cycles of the moon and other celestial bodies, which, according to the biodynamic approach, influence the growth and development of plants.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ol><h3><strong>Biodynamic preparations:<\/strong><\/h3><p>Biodynamic agriculture uses nine specific preparations made from plant, mineral and animal materials. These preparations are used to improve soil and compost and to strengthen plants. For example, preparation 500 is made from cow horn filled with manure and deposited in the ground over the winter, then diluted and sprayed on the field to boost soil microbiological activity.<\/p><p>Farmers who follow biodynamic farming standards, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>can get a Demeter certificate,<\/strong><\/span> an internationally recognised quality brand. This certificate certifies that products are produced according to strict biodynamic requirements and gives consumers confidence in the origin and quality of the products.<\/p><h3><strong>The benefits of biodynamic farming:<\/strong><\/h3><ul><li><strong>Soil health:<\/strong> In the long term, soil structure and fertility are improved.<\/li><li><strong>Ecosystem balance:<\/strong> Enhancing biodiversity creates a more stable and resilient ecosystem.<\/li><li><strong>Product quality:<\/strong> Biodynamic products are often valued for their high nutritional value and taste.<\/li><li><strong>Sustainability:<\/strong> Reducing the use of external inputs and promoting closed loops reduces environmental impacts.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p>To support the development of sustainable agriculture, the Certification and Testing Centre - STC is following trends and training in biodynamic agriculture to provide the necessary expertise for future certification in this area. Our aim is to promote environmentally friendly, natural cycles compatible and high quality food production methods also in Latvia.<\/p><p>Biodynamic agriculture offers an integrated approach that combines traditional knowledge with modern sustainable farming principles, promoting harmony between people and
