Authorisation for the introduction of non-organic animals into a herd

June 4, 2024
We would like to draw the attention of organic livestock farmers!

It can take more than 1 month to obtain a permit for the introduction of non-organic animals into a herd if the application is submitted after the 25th of the month!!!

The introduction of non-organic animals into the herd is subject to authorisation from the Competent Authority (PVD) as laid down in Annex II, Part II, point 1.3.4.4 of EC Regulation 2018/848, which is required from the first introduction of a non-organic animal into the herd.

The STC shall accept and evaluate applications received from organic operators and in accordance with the procedure laid down in Paragraph 48 of Cabinet Regulation No 485, on the 25th of each month sent to the Food and Veterinary Service. The FVO shall decide within 10 working days of receipt of the information whether to grant the authorisation.

The STC shall immediately inform the operator of its decision. The validity of the permit is one year from the date of issue!

ATCERIES!

The closer you submit your application documents by the 25th of the month (5 working days is the preferred STC processing time), the more likely you are to receive the permit the following month

P.S. As the Ministry of Agriculture is currently working on new Cabinet Regulations on the supervision of organic farming in Latvia, STC has proposed to revise the current procedure to make the issuing of permits for the introduction of non-organic animals into the herd more regular and to shorten the time period.
