In order to give all farmers the same development opportunities in the first year of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) programming period, the Government on Tuesday, 8 August, approved amendments to the procedure for granting direct payments prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture, providing for the possibility to submit a geospatial application late.
According to the Rural Support Service (LAD), fewer applications for aid have been received this year and less agricultural land has been declared for aid than in 2022. Many farmers have not applied for measures, in particular eco-schemes and agri-environmental measures, for which they would have been eligible. Several farmers have approached the LAD to allow late submission of their geospatial application as they have missed the deadline of 26 June.
Given that this is the first year of the new CAP programming period, in order to give all farmers the same development opportunities, especially in the livestock and organic farming group, this year there will be an additional opportunity to apply for the types of support that would be eligible for farms that did not apply before 26 June.
The late geospatial application can be submitted until 31 August this year, but the 10% reduction will be applied to the newly requested type of aid.
Amendment to Cabinet Regulation No 198 of 18 April 2023 “Procedure for granting direct payments to farmers“ will enter into force upon publication in the Official Journal "Latvijas Vēstnesis".
