The STC history exhibition in Priekuļi is being given a new look. Historical heritage meets digital technology

SIA “Certification and Testing Centre” (STC), with the support of Cēsis District Council, has implemented a project to modernise the historical exhibition, the aim of which is to preserve and promote the agricultural history of Priekuļi and Cēsis District in a contemporary way, making this cultural and historical heritage more accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
The STC historical exhibition in Priekuļi, at 12 Dārza Street, houses artefacts relating to the operations of the Baltic Machinery Testing Station, the development of agricultural machinery and the STC’s history spanning more than a century, which began in 1911.
As part of the project, historical materials were compiled and organised, four information panels in the exhibition were updated, and two new educational posters were created. The visual design developed combines historical photographs, documents and facts with contemporary graphic design, creating a cohesive and easily understandable narrative about the development of agriculture and its significance in the region’s history.
One of the most significant innovations of the project is the introduction of digital learning opportunities within the exhibition. A QR code system has been set up, and more than 60 QR codes have been placed throughout the exhibition, allowing visitors to use their smartphones to access additional information about the historical exhibits, their uses and significance. Thus, the traditional museum experience has been enhanced by the opportunity to explore history independently in digital format.
To make a visit to the museum even more exciting, an interactive educational game called “What do you know about agriculture?” has also been developed. It takes the form of a 12-question quiz on the history of agriculture, agricultural technology and its development. The game is available on smartphones and is particularly suitable for schoolchildren, families with children and anyone else who is interested in testing and expanding their knowledge. During the project, visitors who successfully complete the game’s tasks will have the chance to receive a small commemorative gift.
The revamped exhibition is open free of charge to all residents of Cēsis District, as well as to other interested visitors. Visitors are invited to explore the historical exhibits, make use of the digital learning resources and test their knowledge in an interactive game. The exhibition can be viewed in Priekuļi, at 12 Dārza Street, every working day from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.
The activities carried out represent a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of the local cultural and historical heritage. By combining authentic historical artefacts with modern digital solutions, the STC creates an educational and engaging environment that helps people learn about the agricultural history of Priekuļi and pass on its story to future generations.
The project was carried out with financial support from Cēsis District Council as part of the Cēsis District cultural projects competition.
